Lunch Bunch - Bunches of Fun!
A Parent's Guide to Lunch Bunch Management
Lunch bunch is a great way to interact with your child and his or
her peers during the school day. Having Mom, Dad or another adult visit
during
the day is a real treat for the children. In compliance with safety guidelines
adopted by WCPSS in April 2004, only persons who have passed screening
on Wake County's Voluteer Level 3 or 4 will be approved as Lunch Bunch
volunteers outside classrooms unsupervised.
Parents have shared the following list of tips:
- Let your child's teacher know in advance that
you are coming.
- Be on time (or five minutes early). Consider
bringing at least one book from home. Let your child help you pick
it out. Books are also available in the Lunch Bunch Room inside the
cafeteria and in the Lunch Bunch Basket in the media center.
- Sign in at the front office and wear your visitor’s
label. (And sign out....)
- Limit your Lunch Bunch group to four children—that
includes siblings!
- Don't plan to eat with the children -- they want
to hear a story while they eat.
- Special treats are not recommended -- unless
you bring enough for the whole class.
- Enjoy sitting outside when the weather is nice.
Be considerate of the noise and distraction that you cause if you
choose an indoor lunch bunch area, and avoid high traffic areas
such as ramps or stairs.
- Encourage the children to eat their lunch while
you are reading. Some of the younger children are still learning
to manage their time.
- Watch the time -- and help the children get back
to the classroom on time.
- Please leave the area as clean or cleaner than
you found it by collecting your trash and disposing of it properly—that
includes cellophane wrappers from juice boxes!
Supporting
School Routines
- Students should walk quietly in the hall.
- If you read in the classroom, close the
door so nearby classes are not disturbed.
- Children should stop by the restroom before
they start lunch.
- Wait your turn -- if another class is
still in the restroom, wait until they are finished before your lunch
bunch goes in.
- In the cafeteria, you can help the children
with their lunch selections. Plastic gloves are provided on top of
the serving area. Children can use disposable trays.
- Lunch trash should be placed in the lunchroom
trashcans to avoid attracting bees outside or odors in the building.
