Character Rewards Program

Cary Towne Center’s “Character Rewards” program is designed to support the Wake County Public School System’s character education program. Cary Towne Center publishes a monthly newsletter about each of the Wake County Public School System’s character traits, which can now be accessed online. Parents must log on to the Cary Towne Center website and print the newsletter out at home. The bottom portion of the newsletter contains a section that parents can complete if their child has demonstrated the character trait of the month. Once the parent fills in the requested information and has their child’s school validate the form it can then be used to redeem a treat at the mall. So, parents, please complete the form, then send it in to the school, we will validate the form, and send it back home.

The directions to access the “Character Rewards” newsletters are as follows: go to the mall website, www.shopcarytownecentermall.com; click on “Sales and Events” which is in the gray bar near the top of the home page; scroll down until you see the “Character Rewards” section; and click on the newsletter/month you would like to print. If you do not have Internet access please let the school know and we will be glad to print you a copy of the monthly newsletter and send it home.

Counselors offers a Power Point Presentation of Services

The Counseling Department has put together a Power Point Presentation to help you understand what is available through our program at West Lake Year- Round Elementary School.

Poppin' with Pride Program

Poppin’ With Pride is a school wide student recognition program designed to promote character development and a positive school climate at West Lake. Any adult staff member may choose to recognize students by inviting them to Poppin’ With Pride. When children are invited they are given a special card and told what they have done to earn this reward. Though this program is designed to promote the 12 West Lake Character traits, children may be invited for any positive behavior that the teacher wants to reinforce and encourage. Poppin With Pride takes place on Fridays in the cafeteria from 2:00-2:30. During PWP, students enjoy a popcorn snack and drink while they watch a fun educational or character related video. Students individually are rewarded with a certificate and talk to the counselors about why they were chosen and why they are feeling proud. You can help by talking to your child about why they were chosen for this honor.
