Beginning next year we will be switching to a new kind of carpool number. This number will be placed around your rearview mirror. All cars will be required to use this number beginning in July. In order for our carpool line to move quickly and safely, all cars must display the new number in the right place. The following points are important for all drivers to think about as they wait in our carpool line:

  1. Several hundred children are dismissed through carpool each day.
  2. There are many children who are new to carpool and need assistance (especially kindergartens).
  3. Children who are talking while waiting hold up the entire process.(Please talk with your child about waiting quietly and patiently fro his/her number to be called.)
  4. Children are not allowed to leave the cafeteria once they have entered. ( Restroom breaks should take place in the classroom before leaving and any items left in classrooms must be picked up another time.)
  5. Middle school students are NOT allowed to come to the elementary school carpool. There are many safety issues involved and it is not possible for our staff to see that students arrive from WLMS.
  6. Students may be dropped off for WLMS if the driver has gotten a special tag from the office. (This is for morning drop off only.)
  7. Each child is responsible for memorizing his/her number. Please help your child remember the number so our dismissal runs smoothly and efficiently...this is where listening is really important! If you are the parent of a kindergartner and have an older child at WLE as well, please encourage them to sit together. (You may also want to write the number on a piece of paper to be kept in the backpack until the number has been memorized.)
  8. Carpool ends promptly at 3:20. Any students who have not been picked up by this time will need to be signed out of the office. Please remember it is not the office staff's responsibility to supervise your child after dismissal. Should you run into circumstances beyond your control and will be late picking up your child, please call the office and let someone know of your situation.
  9. If you decide to discontinue using carpool during the school year, please turn in your number. Many times students decide to use the bus instead of coming to carpool each day. Should this occur please return your tag to the classroom teacher with a note saying you have finished using carpool each day. You may still pick up your child occasionally through the carpool line by giving the staff personnel on duty your child's name. This will allow us to reuse the number rather ran continue to add numbers to the system. This is greatly appreciated!
  10. The front circle is for special education students and buses only. If you need to come in the building, please drop off your child in the carpool line and then park and come in. Please remember to sign in at the front office.
  11. If you are volunteering in a classroom in the afternoon, you may park in the carpool line. Please remember that students may not be checked out early and all dismissals must take place through the carpool line.
  12. There is no pick up or drop off of students anywhere but in the carpool . Remember that this is for the protection of your child. Drop off is not allowed in the back parking lot for elementary OR middle school students, Optimist Farm Road, or the bus lots.
  13. Students may be signed out in the office up until 2:30. They may not be signed out later than that, but must wait for regular school dismissal.

Through the cooperation of parents and students, we can make our dismissals run smoothly, efficiently, and safely. Please help us protect all of the children at our school by following these very important guidelines.
