Things you will not need:

Experience has taught me that the following items usually create unnecessary distractions in the classroom, and are therefore not allowed:

Refill lead for mechanical pencils, gel pens, “click” pens, “decorated pens/ pencils”, small staplers, hand held pencil sharpeners, correction fluid, key chains on bookbags, felt tip markers, Sharpie pens, collectible cards, and toys of any kind- in other words, anything that can create distractions. Large binders will not be needed since we will be using folders. Please keep these items at home!

Topics we will explore:

Math:  Lots of  problem solving using equivalent ratios/fractions; multiplying with decimals; properties of polygons; numeric expressions; data analysis.

Social Studies: History and geography of North America with an emphasis on the United States.  We’ll do an awesome Colonial America unit.  Start learning the locations and capitals of the 50 states.

Language Arts:  Emphasis on grammar, spelling and expository (factual) writing.  Improving vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.

Science: Landforms, weather, ecosystems, and principles of motion.  I am hoping that we can start a garden outside our classroom to observe throughout the year.

I am looking forward to meeting each of you and getting to know you.  I am planning for us to have a great year of learning!
