Welcome to 2nd Grade

Welcome to 2nd grade at West Lake Elementary School!  We are looking forward to a fun, exciting and productive year.  Second Grade will offer your child an opportunity to learn and explore new things in all content areas.

Below you will find information that will help get us started this year.  Please read the information carefully and if you have any questions please feel free to send an email to csales@wcpss.net.

About the Teacher:

My name is Christine Sales and I am so happy to be teaching here at West Lake.  This will be my fourth year at West Lake in 2nd grade. I taught 6th grade in New York for 10 years and spent a year at Highcroft Drive Elementary School doing a remedial reading program.  I love 2nd grade and have been enjoying the children’s energy and enthusiasm!

If there is ever a need to contact me, the best way is through email.  I check my email twice daily and will respond as quickly as I can. My email is csales@wcpss.net.  If you cannot reach me by email, please call me at the school.  The number here is 662-2300.  Thank you.

Below you will find detailed information about the 2nd grade curriculum and procedures for our class.

Curriculum:

~Each week in the newsletter I will inform you what units we will be covering in Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading.  Our curriculum is designed to align with the North Carolina Course of Study and each lesson in every unit focuses on specific objectives. We use the resources available to us for each subject area and supplement those resources with other materials to ensure that the needs of all students are met.   Please let me know if you have specific questions about our curriculum.

Specials:

Because our specials are on a rotating schedule, I will let you know the weekly special schedule in my newsletter.

Volunteers:

If you are interested in volunteering in our class, please make sure that you register with Wake County.  If you have been cleared and would like to come in, please let me know when you are available.

~Yellow folders will come home everyday with your child.  Please look inside for important information and homework assignments.  The Reading Log is located on the front of the folders.  Please make sure that the log is filled out everyday when reading homework is assigned. White envelopes will come home every Monday with student work inside.  Please sign and return the envelope every Tuesday. Thank you.

~Please make sure that if the means of transportation changes for your child, I need a written note to allow him/her to go home by a different method.  Also, if your child is absent from school please make sure that we receive a note explaining the absence.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information.  I am sure that I missed something but as things arise, I will be sure to communicate them with you.  Again, please feel free to call or email anytime.  Thank you for your support!
