Kane and Myers News
Welcome to Third Grade!!!!
Students are required to read at least 15 minutes each night, Monday
through Thursday. Parents should initial
agendas daily. The teacher will check these each Friday. Have your child read
independently or with you; make this a family event. Ask your child to tell you about the setting,
the characters, and the events.
We provide a brief bathroom/snack break each morning. Students are not required to have a snack, but please provide a healthy snack if you send one. Good examples are: fruit, crackers and cheese, juice, yogurt, etc. We do not allow candies, cookies, or any other processed sugar snacks. Students should also be reminded that they should not share snacks or lunches. We appreciate your cooperation.
I want students to have every opportunity to do quality work, both at school and at home.
Therefore, we have devised a different approach to daily homework. Instead of nightly assignments, students are given enrichment projects that are completed on a weekly basis. We will refer to our homework as Enrichment. This gives students time to organize their thoughts and really “get into” their homework. Some projects may be remedial, and some might be quite challenging. You can help your child choose appropriate assignments. Since students will be given so much time, neat and accurate work is expected! Sloppy work will not be accepted.
Enrichment is not assigned the first week of track in. Please take time Monday evenings to talk with your child about the projects he/she would like to accomplish. Decide together how many projects will be completed for the week. Students are expected to turn in one project by Wednesday, their agendas on Friday, and the remaining project(s) on the following Monday. Students may turn in assignments early. The minimum number of projects required is two per week, in addition to their nightly reading. Students will not be penalized for choosing only two projects per week. However, parents should encourage students to complete more if possible.
