West Lake Elementary

Track Two, Third Grade

Mrs. Brandt and Ms. Rigsby

Welcome to third grade!!

We are looking forward to meeting you and your child. This year we will have many new experiences. We will explore the moon and discover the human body. We will be “Pioneer” children for a day. At the end of the year we have a County Fair!

Grading system

We use a rubric grading system. (Refer to West Lake Handbook)

Discipline Policy

As a class we decide on the rules we will obey. We will post them in the room and everyone will sign it. This contract with each other ensures that we all really want the same behavior.

Homework

Your child is expected to copy the homework from the board into their agenda. Homework is posted every morning. Please read the newsletter for updates in all subjects.

Snacks

We do not provide snacks for the students. If your child does not have a snack, she/he will have to wait until lunch.  Some simple snacks include: popcorn, small plastic bag of cereal, fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Food Warning

Wake County Schools restrict food donations to store bought products and dairy products are to be refined and refrigerated. This is the same as past years.

Lunch Bunch

No more than four in a lunch bunch. Please come in five minutes early.

Earth is our home. Please keep it clean!

Field Trips

We will go on two field trips this year.

Conferences

We are required to meet twice a year. Sign up will be happen in the fall for both times. We are available upon request.

Notes

If you want to ensure your message is answered quickly, email it to us. We check email several times a day. It is easier for us to communicate with parents who provide an email address. We will answer any note usually the same day. Phone messages take longer for a response due to our busy schedules.

Our email addresses are abrandt@wcpss.net and nrigby@wcpss.net

We hope this gives you an insight to third grade. We will provide more details at our open house.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Brandt and Ms. Rigsby
