Welcome to third grade!!

I am looking forward to meeting you and your child. This year we will have many new experiences. We will explore the moon and discover the human body. We will be “Pioneer” children for a day. At the end of the year we have a County Fair!

Grading system

We use a rubric grading system. (Refer to West Lake Handbook)

Discipline Policy

As a class we decide on the rules we will obey. We will post them in the room and everyone will sign it. This contract with each other insures that we all really want the same behavior. We use bean economy system in our classroom. (See attached packet)

Homework

Your child is expected to copy the homework from the board into the agenda. Homework is posted every morning. Homework is due on Fridays unless otherwise stated. Please read the newsletter for updates in all subjects.

Snacks

I do not provide snacks for the students. If your child does not have a snack, s/he will have to wait until lunch. Some simple snacks include: popcorn, small plastic bag of cereal, fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

We work during snack this is not a free time. Birthday treats will not be given during instructional time. All birthday treats will be given as dessert at lunch.

Food Warning

Wake County Schools restrict food donations to store bought products and dairy products are to be refined and refrigerated. This is the same as past years.

Lunch Bunch

No more than four in a lunch bunch. Please come in five minutes early.

Earth is our home. Please keep it clean!

On two field trips this year

Conferences

We are required to meet twice a year. A sign up sheet will be available at Open House for both times. I am available upon request.

Notes

If you want to ensure your message is answered quickly, email it to me. I check my email several times a day. It is easier for me to communicate with parents who provide an email address. I will answer any note usually the same day. Phone messages take longer for a response due to our busy schedules.

Newsletters are emailed to parents. Please provide your email address.
